HUDSON, Ohio (WOIO) - Two recent chimney fires in Hudson have prompted fire officials to remind residents about proper fireplace maintenance as the heating season continues.
Chief Jerry Varnes told 19 News that the first fire occurred on Barlow Road at the beginning of November, followed by another on Dillman Drive a few weeks later on Nov. 17.
“Many people describe it as a roaring sound,” Varnes said. “Some people describe it as a train.”
Both fires occurred in areas without fire hydrants. Firefighters called for backup and used alternative methods to extinguish the flames inside the chimneys.
“We have a couple of different methods to help extinguish the fire that’s up inside the chimney,” Varnes said.
