They don’t make love stories like this anymore.
Stanley and Leatrice Dvoskin, of Norwood, are living proof that true love can last a lifetime.
He was 22. She was 19. They met at a City College dance. Stanley offered Leatrice and her friends a ride home. A gentleman move, and one that Leatrice wasn’t about to let slip away.
A few days later, Leatrice did what any determined romantic would do: She looked up Stanley’s unusual last name in the phone book, called him, and said she’d left her heirloom earrings in his car.
Tiny catch: there were no earrings.
"She made it up just to see him again," their granddaughter Allison Koch tells Daily Voice. "The earrings didn’t exist — she might not have even had pierced ears at the time."
Whatever works! The two married in 1950.
Stanley remembers the wedding gifts. Leatrice remembers her beautiful rented dress... and the minor battle she lost with her mom, who insisted that their young cousins be included in the photos. Decades later, the couple still has a thick wedding album with everyone inside.
So, what’s the secret to 75 years of marriage?
"Patience," Stanley said.
"Being tone deaf doesn’t hurt either," Leatrice chimed in.
The Dvoskins raised their family in Harrington Park before moving to Norwood, where they’ve lived for the past 25+ years. They have three daughters, Randi (73), Cindi (71), and Lori (68); five grandchildren, Katie, Allison, David, Julia, and Lily; and eight great-grandchildren, all under 10.
And their traditions are still going strong.
Stanley hits the gym every day. Leatrice hosts family brunch with bagels and lox every other weekend. At 5 o’clock sharp, they pour martinis and share cheese and crackers, a happy hour ritual that’s lasted longer than many marriages.
Seventy-five years later, their home in Norwood isn’t just where they live. It’s where generations gather, traditions endure, and love keeps showing up, one happy hour at a time.
