RALEIGH, N.C. (WITN) - Governor Josh Stein pardoned a pair of turkeys from the Thanksgiving table during the annual turkey pardon ceremony at his home.

Stein partnered with Tim Thomas, president of the North Carolina Poultry Federation, and Butterball for the Nov. 21 pardoning.

Krispy and Kreme are 19-week-old hens that weigh around 45 pounds. After their pardoning, they will return home and live out their days at Naylor Family Farm in Fuquay-Varina.

At the ceremony, Butterball, the poultry company that provided this year’s pardoned turkeys, announced it would give away 1,500 turkey breasts to the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina.
