Two Dorchester parents have been charged in connection with the January death of their 5-week-old, premature daughter.

Raynell Reed, 31, and Gerard Winn, 52, were both arraigned Monday and charged with manslaughter.

Reed learned she was pregnant in September 2024, prosecutors said in a press release, and gave birth at home on Dec. 5, 2024 two months before her expected due date of Feb. 7, 2025. Winn and Reed never sought medical care for their premature daughter, who was severely malnourished and did not gain or maintain weight, officials said.

At about 10 a.m. on Jan. 9, Reed called 911 to report that the baby was not breathing. The baby was brought to Boston Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

She weighed 2.5 pounds at the time of her death, prosecutors said.
