LAS CRUCES, N.M. —

Mario Moccia, the former athletic director at New Mexico State University, has filed a lawsuit against the university, alleging wrongful termination related to hazing allegations and misconduct during the 2022-2023 basketball season.

"Prior to this incident, we had never heard of a hazing incident at New Mexico State University," Moccia said in March of 2024 during an interview secured by Target 7 as part of their special investigation titled "Hazed, Fear, and Failure."

The hazing allegations involved the NMSU basketball team and led to the cancellation of the 2022-23 season. Additionally, former NMSU basketball player Mike Peake was involved in a fatal shooting in November 2022 after sneaking out of the team's hotel in Albuquerque. The shooting was ruled self-defens
