PEYTON, Colo. (KKTV) -A Peyton man running a 24-hour food pantry out of his driveway said the demand has grown far beyond what he initially expected.
Dustin Story, who started the pantry earlier this month, told 11 News he launched “Feeding Rural Colorado” with just three plastic totes and a hand-painted sign. The pantry served its first visitors within hours, and Story said it has been busy ever since.
“For the first 16 days we didn’t have a shed at all, everything sat outside until volunteers donated one and installed it on November 16,” Story said.
Story said families arrive throughout the day and night, sometimes at three or four in the morning. He told 11 News that refrigerated items such as milk, eggs, meat and fresh produce go the fastest, along with feminine hygiene products.
