A train station has reopened after hours of disruption caused when the driver of a suspected stolen car smashed through level-crossing barriers while fleeing police. Merseyrail services were heavily affected and a nearby road was closed in both directions following the incident at Leasowe station this morning.

Police were called at around 10.15am on Monday, November 24, after reports that a stolen vehicle was being driven in the area. Officers said the driver failed to stop and made off at speed in an "extremely dangerous manner", crashing through the barriers at the Reeds Lane level crossing.
