Michelle Boyle didn’t waver as she spoke under the fluorescent lights of the Pittsburgh Public Schools administration building Monday: Stop evicting district children.
Schools, Ms. Boyle said, are often second homes for children who spend hours in the buildings interacting with teachers and other students. But those schools are at risk of being upended as directors prepare to vote Tuesday on a plan that would shutter nine school buildings.
“Public schools are the foundation of our society,” Ms. Boyle said. “Stop the dangerous anti-social behavior of closing our children’s schools. As a neighbor and parent of Pittsburgh Public graduates, this is the third round of school closures threatening the well-being of our children and the very fabric of our neighborhoods and communities.”
