SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - In the midst of trade wars, tariffs, and a government shutdown, harvest season is here.

As the world of agriculture, particularly soybeans, remains a hot topic, a panel at the Sioux Falls Rotary Club meeting discussed how the state is balancing trade while also striving to be self-sufficient.

Paul Casper, from Lake Preston, said he barely broke even amid the tariffs. Yet he has confidence in the Trump administration to foster advantageous trade deals, deals he says weren’t addressed in the last administration.

“Nothing was made with any other country. When those ran out, our market ran out. I truly believe he’ll get this market back, and we went down this road before, and I look at it as a pretty good-sized bump, but a bump in the road,” Casper said
