Family, friends and classmates on Monday held a vigil for a 14-year-old boy who was shot and killed during a "teen takeover" in the Loop hours after the city's Christmas tree lighting.
According to police, at approximately 10:40 p.m. on Friday, officers responded to a call of a person shot and found two people who had been struck by gunfire. The teen, who was later identified as Armani Floyd, was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Three days following the shooting, his classmates gathered to honor a life cut far too short.
“The night before the lights I told him… be safe," said Nyah Deberry, Armani's girlfriend. "Stay with the people you’re with… you have a bright future.”
