BEAUMONT, Texas — A Beaumont nonprofit moved a retired U.S. Army veteran off the streets and into a fully furnished home just days before Thanksgiving, continuing its mission to help those experiencing homelessness turn houses into homes.
Mae’s Love Beyond the Walls surprised James Meloncon with a place to live, complete with furnishings and a stocked refrigerator, after he spent time living on the streets of Beaumont following financial hardship.
“Welcome home!...Hi everybody!” could be heard as Meloncon arrived, visibly emotional and overwhelmed by the moment. “Seriously, like I'm dreaming,” he said.
