ATWELL — A horse is dead after a fire destroyed a barn in southeastern Rowan County Monday afternoon.
The fire occurred at approximately 1:15 p.m. at the end of Ervin Farm Road, off of Deal Road. When firefighters arrived on scene, they found two outbuildings on fire, confirmed Atwell Assistant Fire Chief Ryan Yost in a phone call Monday evening.
Firefighters were advised that there was a horse in one of the buildings but were unable to save it and the horse died as a result of its injuries, confirmed Rowan County Assistant Fire Chief Allyson Summitt in a phone call.
No firefighters were injured and there were no people in the building when firefighters arrived on
