CLEVELAND, Ohio — After three marathon sessions combing through the fine print, Cleveland City Council won’t rush to vote on Mayor Justin Bibb’s $100 million settlement with the Browns.
Instead, Council President Blaine Griffin said members are preparing their own tweaks to the deal to send to Bibb, who would then have to return to Dee and Jimmy Haslam for approval.
Griffin said the city does not have a tremendous amount of leverage” and renegotiating the terms of the $100 million would be difficult. But he and others believe some changes are still possible — including one piece of legal minutiae Bibb’s administration already agrees needs another look.
