A Newark City Councilman is pushing for increased parking ticket enforcement after he noted the city has seen a sharp decline revenue so far this year.
During Monday's Newark City Council meeting, City Councilman John Suchanec called for Newark staff to investigate the cause of a 23% drop in ticket revenue year-to-year compared to 2024.
According to a November 10 letter to council, Alderman Lisa Hatfield reported that $1.01 million in parking tickets had been issued in the first 10 months of 2025, down from $1.28 million in 2024.
Newark raised its parking fines in 2023 from $20 to $70, with half taken off if paid within 25 days.
That led to a sharp escalation in parking fine revenue after the increase.
2021 - $887,498.41
2022 - $975,401.99
2023 - $1,291,123.26
2024 - $1,479,922.76
