Alison Phillips took ill a few days after landing in Barbados for a special birthday holiday
A mum-of-two remains sedated on a ventilator after her dream holiday to Barbados turned into a nightmare. Alison Phillips travelled to the Caribbean island with friends on November 2 to mark her 60th birthday.
But after flying more than 4,000 miles from home for the celebration, she quickly started feeling poorly. The NHS midwife, who had arranged travel insurance for the once-in-a-lifetime getaway, visited local doctors with chest infection symptoms and was given antibiotics before being told to return to her accommodation, according to her daughter Abi.
But just three days later, on November 6, the situation deteriorated dramatically when she was taken to hospital suffering from septic shock -
