Half a million state pensioners may start paying income tax after the Labour Party Autumn Budget tomorrow. 500,000 state pensioners could start paying income tax if Labour Party Chancellor Rachel Reeves extends the freeze on tax thresholds for another two years.

That's according to modelling by Steve Webb, a parter at pensions consultants LCP and former Liberal Democrats pensions minister.

Under the Department for Work and Pensions, or DWP , Triple Lock, increases to the state pension are decided by either inflation, wage growth or 2.5%, but it depends on which of these is highest.
