SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - Travel experts predict another record-breaking year for Thanksgiving travel as 82 million people are expected to travel more than 50 miles for the holiday.

AAA says around 90 percent of those travelers will be on the roads, with the busiest travel days falling on Tuesday and Wednesday.

“Particularly, if you’d really drill down into the times, that mid-morning to late evening hours, say from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., those are expected to be the peak travel times on those days,” said Nick Chabarria of AAA.

Chabarria recommends leaving as early in the day as possible to avoid congestion.

“If you’re planning to leave at like 9 or 10, you’re already going to be behind some of that congestion as it builds up,” Chabarria said.
