Loved ones, fellow officers, and community members will gather Tuesday night to honor Greenville Police Officer Cooper Dawson, who was killed in the line of duty one year ago .

Police said Officer Dawson died after a traffic stop turned into a pursuit on Nov. 25, 2024. During the chase, he was ambushed and shot several times.

Dawson’s death marked the Greenville Police Department’s first line-of-duty death in more than 100 years.

In September, Dawson was posthumously awarded the Star of Texas by Gov. Greg Abbott. The governor presents the medals to honorees and family members of "peace officers, firefighters, and emergency first responders who are killed or suffer serious injury in the line of duty."
