When we arrived from Lynn to Amesbury in 1969 we found a vibrant Council of Churches (COC), espousing in word and action an amazing and inclusive Ecumenism. I wrote about their activities as a correspondent for the Daily News. It was an immediate draw for me and my late husband, Nick who joined shortly thereafter.
Nick and I worked with some amazing town folks who represented and made contributions to the project: Sadie Embree of Market Street Baptist Church; the Rev. Earl Young and wife, Charlotte of Union Congregational Church; Rev. Gerald Van Fleet, pastor of St. James Episcopal Church; Deacon Richard Bowley of Sacred Heart Church; Milton and Rita Connelly of St. Joseph’s Church; Frannie Hoyt, Lilly Hodge and Henrietta Kent from First United Methodist Church; Liz Adell, Barbara Lagasse
