The U.S. Naval Academy’s commandant of midshipmen is out after less than six months in the role, the academy’s superintendent announced Monday.
Capt. Gilbert Clark Jr. was relieved of his duties as a result of a “loss of confidence in his ability to effectively lead the Brigade of Midshipmen,” according to an announcement from the USNA superintendent.
According to the statement, Clark’s job was to oversee conduct, training and development of about 4,400 midshipmen.
USNA Superintendent Lt. Gen. Michael Borgschulte, who joined the academy in August, said Capt. Austin Jackson will take over the role in an interim capacity.
