The Kentucky Department for Public Health says an infant had died from pertussis.
This is the third death within the last 12 months.
This is a highly contagious respiratory infection that has seen an increase across the United States.
This is in part due to declining vaccination rates.
As of November 19, there have been 566 cases of whooping cough identified in Kentucky.
Babies younger than 1 year old are at the greatest risk.
The best way to prevent whooping cough is by receiving the Tdap or DTaP vaccine.
