DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) - China bought nearly 1 million tons of U.S. soybeans in its largest purchase since January.
Chad Hart, an economics professor at Iowa State University, said soybean prices have increased over the last couple of weeks. Farmers say prices are now about 5 to 6 percent higher than they were in August, but Hart said they’re still not at a profitable level for most growers.
Corn prices remain low amid storage challenges
The same goes for corn, Hart said. Corn prices are low because production is outpacing demand. Farmers are selling grain, but there’s still so much corn that storage sites across Iowa are filling up with piles of it.
