COVINGTON, Va. (WDBJ) - Weighing in at 1,507 pounds, Steven Hall placed second at the Virginia State Fair for his giant pumpkin and won the governor’s pick, now on display at the governor’s mansion in Richmond.
“That’s been one of my goals since I’ve been going to the state fair was to get that governor’s pick. It was really special to me and I got to go and meet the governor and talk to lots of people about pumpkin growing. They were probably tired of hearing about pumpkin growing by the time I left,” Hall said.
He also earned his first blue ribbon at the Virginia State Fair for a 174-pound giant bushel gourd.
Hall had another 1,511-pound pumpkin that placed fourth at the North Carolina State Fair and won the Howard Dill Award for Best Looking Pumpkin.
