A rising Latin singer was shot and killed in an ambush while sitting in a parked car in Los Angeles’ Northridge neighborhood, police said.

The Los Angeles Police Department said in a Monday, Nov. 24 news release that Maria De La Rosa, 22, who performed as DELAROSA, died after gunfire erupted around 1:25 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, on Bryant Street east of Tampa Avenue. 

Witnesses told investigators two male suspects approached a vehicle parked on the block and fired several rounds at people inside.

De La Rosa suffered gunshot wounds and later died at a hospital, according to LAPD. Two other victims were hospitalized in critical condition. 

As of Tuesday, Nov. 25, detectives had not announced a motive, and no arrests had been made. While some reports suggest the shooting may be gang-related, this has not been officially confirmed.

De La Rosa had built a fast-growing following online, with more than 40,000 Instagram followers tracking her studio sessions and performances. Her final Instagram post three weeks ago showed her in a recording studio with the caption: “Busy cookin in the Stu 🎶👩🏻 🍳don’t call me 🪄 in It’s about that time.. GAME TIME BABY #SoloLaFamilia #LaMuñecaMalaSoyYo.” She released her debut single, “No Me Llames,” in August.

Tributes from fans and artists across the Latin music scene spread on social media through the weekend, remembering her voice and energy. Friends shared clips of her studio work and performances, offering condolences to her family.

LAPD’s Robbery-Homicide Division, Valley Section, is leading the investigation with Operations Valley Bureau Homicide detectives.

Police asked nearby residents and businesses to check cameras for activity around Bryant Street in the minutes before and after the shooting and to share footage with detectives.
