The tragic death of an eight-year-old has sparked Rochdale’s MP to demand a crackdown on drug driving.
Blake Consterdine-Clarke suffered ‘catastrophic injuries’ when his father Leon Clarke lost control of his vehicle on the motorway, near Audenshaw, on February 28, 2020. Clarke was uninsured and 13 times the legal drug-driving limit when his unroadworthy BMW smashed into a lorry, an inquest in 2023 was told.
Clarke, 40, was jailed for four years in October 2022 after admitting causing his son’s death by careless driving whilst over the drug driving limit.
Rochdale MP Paul Waugh believes Blake’s tragic death shows why the Government must strengthen roadside drug tests and clamp down on drug-drivers as part of its forthcoming Road Safety Strategy.
