Romano’s Macaroni Grill appears to be joining the ranks of defunct restaurant chains.

The Italian restaurant chain has been quietly closing outposts and by all appearances now operates about nine locations.

Last week, a Romano’s Macaroni Grill at 2531 Brindle Drive in Susquehanna Township abruptly closed. A sign posted at the restaurant at the Shoppes at Susquehanna Marketplace alerts customers to the closure.

Phil Romano, an Italian-American, founded the chain, opening the first restaurant in Leon Springs, Texas in 1988. At one point the chain operated more than 200 locations.

The chain has struggled financially through the years, and emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2018.
