A North Liberty woman convicted of second-degree murder in Minnesota has been sentenced to 40 years in prison.
Margot Lewis, 33, was arrested in June 2024 after crashing her vehicle into a median near Rochester, Minnesota. Witnesses and investigators on the scene discovered the body of 35-year-old Liara Tsai in her trunk, who they believed was a "romantic partner."
In September, a Hennepin County jury found Lewis guilty of second-degree murder without premeditation but with intent, as well as second-degree murder while committing a felony for transporting Tsai's body.
Lewis was sentenced to 480 months in state prison on Friday, Nov. 20, the maximum allowable prison sentence under Minnesota law. The Hennepin County District Court Judge did not issue an additional punishment for the sec
