TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - Airports and highways across the country are filling up as families make their way to holiday gatherings, with AAA predicting more than 1.7 million people across Arizona will join the Thanksgiving travel rush this week.

Tucson International Airport expects 14,000 travelers to come through on Tuesday alone during what is traditionally the busiest travel holiday of the year. Airport officials say operations should run smoothly following the end of the recent government shutdown.

“We understand that there’s probably some concern given the past few weeks have been very challenging in the industry, but all indications we have are that the holiday season will be business as usual,” said Austin Wright of the Tucson Airport Authority.
