BLACKSBURG, Va. (WDBJ) - The Blacksburg Police Department with permission from the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources (DWR) will establish deer culling operations around Blacksburg over the next few months, according to police.

Police say the operation is an attempt to decrease deer population and curb the possible spread of Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) .

CWD is spread through animal body fluids and can be transmitted by direct or indirect contact.

The culling operation will take place at night and throughout the town, says Blacksburg PD.

Officers say they’re conducting the culling in unmarked police vehicles. If anybody has any questions regarding the operations, Blacksburg PD wants you to contact Lt. Kale Craver at (540)443-1400.
