AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - Nearly 100 children fall victim to online sextortion every day, and experts with The Bridge Children’s Advocacy Center say this crime is happening to children in Amarillo.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received nearly 100 reports of financial sextortion daily in 2024. Authorities say that number is growing.

Sextortion is digital blackmail targeting children. Predators obtain intimate images, then demand money or more victims.

“And then this kid sends those pictures and videos, and now that person is telling them I’m going to post these on Instagram or send this to your family if you don’t send me $1,000,” said Courtney Ma with The Bridge Children’s Advocacy Center.
