In an industry saturated with reboots and revivals, what's one more?
"Star Search," the iconic talent competition show from the '80s and '90s, will make its grand return in 2026, though this time fit for the streaming era.
Where the original program, which saw contestants compete across entertainment skills, was a broadcast favorite, the revival will stream on Netflix. The show, which will premiere Jan. 13, will be hosted by "Black-ish" star Anthony Anderson.
New episodes of "Star Search" will air live on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET and are set to include realtime voting to save or axe contestants.
What is 'Star Search'? Beyoncé, Britney Spears, more launched careers on show
Netflix's new project will take cues from a show with a solid legacy. The original "Star Search" helped launch performers like Beyoncé, Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, Dave Chappelle and Adam Sandler to fame.
In a release announcing the show, Netflix promised the series would feel "nostalgic yet fresh," adding something new to "the talent competition space," which has recently seen a ratings jolt amid the popularity of this season of "Dancing with the Stars."
Whether the show will have the cache, though, remains to be seen in the era of TikTok and YouTube. "Star Search" rose to popularity at a time when individuals from all over the world couldn't pull out their smartphone and hit record, instantly launching their talent into the world wide web.
