A North East council has rejected calls to reinstate a mobile library. North Tyneside Council decided to cease visits from its children’s book bus to schools in 2023.
The authority has also since retired its other Book Bus this summer, which had been stationed outside the closed Tynemouth Library and also served care homes and sheltered accommodation. A cross-party group of councillors has urged officials to explore bringing back the school library bus service, as part of efforts to promote reading among primary school children.
