FESTUS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - City council members voted unanimously Monday night to approve rezoning several hundred acres of land near Highway 67 and west of County Road CC for a data center.

The move drew opposition from many residents who crowded council chambers. Some said they worry about the ripple effects of data centers, including noise, environmental impacts and quality of life.

“I am going to see the consequences of this daily,” one resident said. “I’m raising a family and I’m very upset that I had zero choice in the matter of this mess that’s happened. I feel like the word transparency has not happened at all.”

Many in the room showed support for the opportunities coming with a data center, including jobs.
