The footballer’s sister, Barbara McNarry, laid flowers at the family plot and spoke quietly with fans who had travelled from across Northern Ireland and further afield to pay their respects.
Many of those in attendance brought photographs, United scarves and handwritten notes, reflecting their affection for the Belfast footballer two decades on.
Born in east Belfast in 1946, Best rose to global fame in the 1960s after being spotted by Manchester United scout Bob Bishop. He became a key part of Sir Matt Busby’s celebrated side, winning two league titles and the 1968 European Cup.
