Two families crowded into a Boston courtroom Monday morning, brought together by the tragic impacts of gun violence as a Mattapan teenager faced charges involving a shooting last year that left another teen dead.

Allen Curry, 16, was arraigned as an adult on a first-degree murder and firearms indictment in Suffolk Superior Court. He pleaded not guilty. An assistant clerk magistrate ordered him held without bail as the case proceeds.

At the request of his attorney, Curry attended the hearing from an adjacent hallway, mostly concealed behind a partially closed door to shield him from public viewing. He was 15 when he allegedly left his father’s Mattapan home, emerged from a wooded area and opened fire on a parked car, prosecutors said during the hearing. The shooting occurred around 12:30
