Adam Engstrom was knocking on the door at the Canadiens’ training camp this year and appeared close to cracking the roster, only to be among the team’s final cuts.

Now, the door appears to be opening.

The Swedish defenceman was recalled by Montreal on Sunday from AHL Laval and has accompanied the Canadiens on their road trip this week. The team will play three games over four days, beginning Wednesday against Utah (9:30 p.m., TSN2, RDS, TSN Radio-690, 98.5 FM) when Jakub Dobes will get the start in goal.

With the Canadiens carrying seven defencemen, there’s no guarantee Engstrom will play. Fellow Laval blue-liner Marc Del Gaizo has been recalled several times this season for road trips, but was a healthy scratch for each game.
