Wilmington City Council member Shané Darby is urging Gov. Matt Meyer to halt all transfers out of the Plummer Community Corrections Center and reconsider plans to close the facility, saying the decision threatens the stability of residents working to reenter society.
The Plummer Center is slated to close by March. State officials say the closure will reduce costs, ease staffing shortages and allow the state Department of Correction to expand reentry and job training programs at newer facilities in Smyrna and Sussex. Residents housed at the Plummer Center will be moved to other state-run community corrections programs or evaluated for home confinement.
