LEE COUNTY, Ala. (WTVM) - A Phenix City woman has been arrested in connection with an abuse investigation, authorities say.

On November 24, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a mom attempting to smother her 4-month-old daughter.

Lee County Deputies arrived in the 200 block of Lee Road 212 approximately eight minutes after the call.

Officials say witnesses say 28-year-old Mireira Lucero was trying to suffocate her baby. Witnesses also stated that they observed Lucero choke and shake the baby to get her to stop crying.

ETS responded to the scene and transported the infant to a local hospital to be medically assessed by a physician. At the time of transport, the baby was alert and seemed to be in good health.
