Thanksgiving is just days away, and Renoites hosting the annual holiday feast may be tempted to put food scraps into the garbage disposal. But not every food is disposal-friendly.
Starchy foods, fibrous produce, eggshells, shellfish and coffee grounds are among the most common offenders that can cause problems when ground in the garbage disposal. There are a variety of reasons these scraps can gunk up Nevadans’ disposals and are better thrown in the trash.
Consumer Reports, a nonprofit member organization that publishes articles and studies on the economy and marketplace, created a list of scraps that should be thrown in the trash rather than destroyed in the garbage disposal.
