Blizzard warnings were issued and authorities were advising no travel in parts of Minnesota as heavy snow arrived on Tuesday afternoon.
Roads and highways in western and northwestern Minnesota are considered completely covered or partially covered as rain transitioned to snow.
There is a blizzard warning in effect in Traverse, Big Stone and Grant counties in west-central Minnesota, and in Wisconsin's Douglas County, just south of Duluth.
In Wilkin County, on the western Minnesota border, the local sheriff is urging no travel "due to slick, slushy road conditions and very limited visibility across the area."
"Please stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary and allow crews time to work safely," it said.
