Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza and Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love are two of the three finalists for the Maxwell Award, given to the best player in college football. Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin is the third finalist.
Mendoza has led the Hoosiers to the first 11-0 start in program history and their highest ranking ever at No. 2. He leads the nation in touchdown passes with 30, already the IU single-season record, and is No. 2 behind Sayin in passer rating at 184.8 (his fellow Big Ten signal-caller is at 185.4). His 9.5 yards per attempt lead the Big Ten and he's completed 73% of his throws, third nationally (Sayin is No. 1 at 79.4%).
"He wants to be great, and he's willing to make the sacrifices and put the work in and has the discipline to do it day in and day out,"
