Star 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy didn’t have his best performance during San Francisco’s 20-9 win over the Carolina Panthers on Monday night at Levi’s Stadium.
However, Kyle Shanahan still had his back.
The 49ers coach was blunt postgame when asked if he considered benching Purdy in favor of backup quarterback Mac Jones .
“No,” Shanahan said.
Shanahan didn’t waste any time with that conversation.
Despite the victory, though, Purdy was not his usual self, which made Jones an enticing option for some -- especially considering his 5-3 record as a starter.
Purdy finished the game 23-of-32 passing for 192 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions against Carolina. The trio of errant turnovers came in the first half, with two coming in the first quarter.
