A 3-year-old child involved in a car wreck Monday afternoon has died of its injuries, according to the Cocke County Sheriff’s Office.

According to a release from Sheriff C.J. Ball, around 4:11 p.m., Monday, deputies and other first responders were called to a Ridgeland Drive residence where the child with what the Sheriff referred to as “critical injuries.”

When personnel arrived at the home, Ball said that first responders immediately started rendering aid.

“The child was transported to Tennova Health Newport Medical Center by Priority Ambulance Service where unfortunately the child passed away,” Ball said.

Meanwhile, CCSO detectives were called to the home to investigate circumstances around the accident. The investigation is ongoing and no other information is available.
