When former Edmonton Oilers assistant coach Glen Gulutzan, who looked after the forwards and the power play here, left to become Dallas’s head coach in July, he took Oilers skating coach David Pelletier with him.
He bumped the Canadian Olympic figure skater — pairs with Jamie Sale in Salt Lake City in 2002 — up to an assistant coach.
“Dave spent 11 seasons here and I think Tip (former head coach Dave Tippett) brought him into the fold. I saw his relationships with the (Oilers) players over the years and his ability to develop them, especially with the top players. I saw those top guys asking Dave if he would skate them when they’re out (injured), putting them through the drills,” said Gulutzan.
