The early retirement of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) should raise alarms for Republicans, former GOP House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said.
During an interview Monday on Fox News’ “ Jesse Watters Primetime, ” McCarthy said Greene’s stunning decision to resign from her House seat effective Jan. 5, 2026, could signify trouble ahead for Republicans in the midterm elections.
“She’s almost like a canary in a coal mine,” McCarthy told Watters . “And this is something inside Congress — they’d better wake up because they’re going to get a lot of people retiring and they’ve got to focus.”
“You only get two years to be in the majority,” he added.
Like Greene, several other House Republicans are reportedly considering leaving their posts mid-term due to frustrations with Speaker Mike Joh
