A renewed U.S. push to end the war between Russia and Ukraine is gathering momentum, although some of the key issues remain unresolved, officials said on Tuesday.
Contrary to media reports on Tuesday that a near final version had been reached between the U.S. and Ukraine, Oleksandr Bevz, a representative of Ukraine's negotiating delegation, said it was too early to say something had been agreed upon.
In an interview with The Associated Press at Ukraine's presidential administration on Tuesday evening, Bevz said that some points were only for Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskyy to agree.
"There is no final draft. It's important to understand that the final decision and approval will be taken by the President,” Bevz said.
He said the next steps included Tuesday's U.S.-Russia meeting in Abu Dhabi, to gauge their reaction, and Ukraine expects there to be a meeting between Trump and Zelenskyy, noting that the U.S.-Ukraine and U.S.-Russia track may overlap.
Bevz would not be drawn on what amendments were made, citing the sensitivity of the discussions.
He said most of the points were amended but for a variety of reasons, including duplication and irrelevance.
