LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - Michigan’s Gun Violence Prevention Task Force has released its first report with recommendations to curb community violence.

The task force was selected by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer last year and includes health care professionals, law enforcement officials and community advocates.

It was formed in the wake of a mass shooting on the campus of Michigan State University and the official declaration of gun violence as a public health crisis.

“We’ve got to support the existing laws that are there, but we also have to think to the future,” said Dr. Natasha Bagdasarian, Michigan’s Chief Medical Executive and task force chair.
