LEXINGTON, Ky. — Proposed changes to the Fayette County Board of Education’s governance manual partially led to an over five-hour meeting.
Among the changes discussed Monday night are two dealing with how dissenting voices can share their message; one proposal would not allow board members voting in the minority to speak with news media, and another would limit what those members can post on social media. State Senator Amanda Mays Bledsoe, R-Lexington, said both are unconstitutional.
“When you’re elected for whatever role you happen to be, you have a responsibility to the public to be transparent, be open, to give your thoughts; that’s part of your job,” Bledsoe said.
