DUBLIN, Ga. — A Dublin City Schools teacher says consolidation with Laurens County Schools may be unavoidable as the district faces mounting financial pressure, though she acknowledges the merger would bring significant challenges.
Chelsea Taylor, who teaches at Dublin City Schools, said discussions about consolidation began circulating last year, well before the district's financial crisis became public knowledge.
"Last year there was that up in the air from the very get go about consolidation," Taylor said.
She said the district's financial troubles have intensified speculation about why merger talks surfaced when they did.
