KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - The Knoxville Fire Bureau and the Karns Fire Department held a community risk reduction event focused on Thanksgiving cooking.

Thanksgiving is the number one day of the year for cooking fires in the United States, according to the American Red Cross.

“What we want to do is emphasize safety, encourage folks to be vigilant about what they want to do with their turkeys. This is one of the things that we see an increase, a cause for the house fires on this day in particular,” Brent Seymour, Public Safety Director and Fire Marshal for Knox County Fire said. “Cooking fires are traditionally the most significant cause for fires anyway, but especially on the holidays and Thanksgiving Day,”
